Are we allowed to paint a common room?

In most buildings it is possible to get a fee to paint the general living room/kitchen of your student house. Send your ideas including a budget to info@sshxl.nl. As soon as we have let you know that we agree with your plans, you can start painting. Before we pay the invoice, we would like to visit and watch the result. By the way, think carefully about the style in which you are going to paint your house, because you can only submit a declaration once every three years.

Are you open to suggestions when it comes to pimping my building?

We love to reward our tenants’ great ideas: that’s why, in collaboration with our tenants’ organization BoKS, we’ve set up an initiative fund to do so. Read more!

How do I submit an idea?

Tenant initiatives can be submitted throughout the year at initiatief@sshxl.nl. Twice a year, initiatives are reviewed by SSH and tenant union BoKS. Deadlines for the review rounds are May 31 and December 31. After that, all initiators will be contacted. Is your initiative (partially) approved? Then an employee will handle this further with you and you can get to work!

What's the maximum amount we can get?

Through a tenant initiative, your house or complex can receive up to €5,000 in financial compensation from SSH.

What are the conditions to participate?

Your idea must meet a number of conditions:

  • the initiative must contribute to the quality of life in the house or complex;
  • there must be enough support from fellow residents;
  • and your request does not include any products or services that fall under our exceptions. For more information, please see the frequently asked questions at the bottom of this page.

Do I have to be on a housing board to participate in this?

No, you don't have to be on a housing board to submit an application; all tenants can do so. Of course, it is important that your housemates or complex mates are excited about your plans! The more residents support your proposal, the more likely you will receive a financial contribution

What will not be reimbursed?

  • house parties or events;
  • luxury items for personal use such as TVs, speakers and gaming consoles;
  • work that is part of regular maintenance;
  • and work included in SSH's fiscal year budget in the current or next fiscal year.
