Rental payments for Long Stay

This article only applies for Long Stay. Click here to find more information about the difference between Long Stay and Short Stay housing.

When do I have to pay?

You will pay your rent in advance. This means that we must receive your payment on the first day of each month. If you pay by direct debit, the rent will be debited on the first working day of the month. So make sure there are enough funds on your account that day!

How does the first rental payment work?

During the final step of signing a rental agreement, we'll ask you to make the first rental payment via iDeal. In this step, you also indicate how you want to make the monthly rent payment - either via direct debit or 'online payment'. Online payment means a creditcard payment or iDeal payment via My SSH. Note that even if you have lived with us before, you must still complete the rental payment via iDeal or creditcard and indicate how you wish to make the monthly payment.

How do I have to pay?

There are two ways to pay your rent. It’s not possible to pay your rent in cash.

  • Direct debit is the easiest way, as you won’t have to think about anything. Once you sign your tenancy agreement, you authorize the SSH to automatically debit the rent from your account each month.
  • If you prefer to pay your rent via iDeal of creditcard, you can do so on My SSH. However, you will first have to change the payment method yourself.

Can I make a payment arrangement?

Can't pay your rent (or not in time)? Please contact us! We’ll often be able to make a payment arrangement with no extra costs involved.

What if I can't pay my rent in time?

You will receive a payment reminder from us one day after the payment deadline. If you do not respond, you will receive a second reminder (in Dutch: aanmaning) one week after the first one. If we don’t receive the rent payment and no arrangement has been set up, we will call in a bailiff. There are costs involved in doing so. The moment we engage a bailiff, he will handle the payment of the arrears with you. Please note: the normal monthly rent payment will continue through us. So you will have to continue to pay your rent every month!

My SSH says 'paid', but no money has been debited from my account.

If a direct debit fails, it can take several business days before your bank has communicated this to us. Until then you will see 'paid' on My SSH, while no money has (yet) been debited from your account. If the direct debit has not been successful, you will automatically receive a payment reminder. You can then pay via My SSH.

Can I change my payment method?

If you want to change the payment method, please login to My SSH and go to 'My details' and 'My payments details'. Please note that change of payment method must be done before the 20th of the month if you want this payment method to be effective on first of the month. If you change the method after the 20th of the month, the payment method will be effective on the following month. For example: if you change your payment method to direct debit on 15 March, the rent payment for April will be paid by direct debit. If you change your payment method to direct debit on 23 March, you will still have to pay via My SSH (online payment) for April, but the rental payment for May will be paid by direct debit.
